Laser Welding
Teledyne MEC has two 1.06-micron laser welders, which can provide a maximum pulse
energy of 25 Joules, at a pulse rate of 1-100 Hz and a pulse width of 1-5 msec.
Laser welding offers many advantages and is applicable for a wide variety of materials:
- High temperatures allow the joining of "impossible" materials (e.g., Molybdenum
to Molybdenum)
- Minimal mechanical stress for delicate assemblies or critical alignments
- High-precision, miniature welding within a vacuum envelope (at a distance)
- Continuous welds are possible
- Automated multi-axis platforms available
Welding can be carried out in a variety of inert atmospheres.
Standard Resistance Welding (Spot Welding) and Tig Welding
Teledyne MEC has several spot welders that have adjustable pulse length, power,
and repetition rate to provide an optimum weld. Once parameters are established,
each weld is monitored to ensure repeatable quality.
Tig welding is carried out either with fixtures or tooling on a variable speed rotary
table for small intricate work or freehand for large assemblies.
Teledyne MEC personnel can also assist in the design or optimization of welding
fixtures for specific application.
